Replacement of Paper Pilot Certificates Time Critical for Pilots

For all pilots with FAA issued airmen certificates, both U.S. citizens and foreign, the previously issues PAPER airmen certificates will expire on March 31, 2010 and must be replaced with the new credit card style plastic license. After March 31, 2010, those pilots that have not replaced their PAPER airmen certificates will not be permitted to exercise the privileges of the PAPER certificate.

For pilots who have obtained their FAA airmen certificates via FAR 61.75 reciprocity relying on a non-USA airmen’s certificate, it is critical to begin the process to obtain the new credit card style replacement license. The current time period to replace a 61.75 certificate is expected to a minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) weeks.

To replace a 61.75 airmen certificate, you must complete an FAA form to have your license, ratings and medical validated by the authority which issued your airmen certificate.

After you obtain verification of your airmen certificate, you must make an appointment with an FAA District Office in the United States, and go in person and meet with an FAA Inspector to collect you replacement certificate.

If you have not already done so, you should begin the process to validate and replaced your certificate immediately to avoid a suspension of your privileges.

If you are unable to complete the verification process of your airmen certificate through your issuing authority, you may obtain a new FAA license by taking a check ride.
